Vampire ~ History, Mythology and Folklore

Picture of a skull from a 16th Century Venetian grave.

Everybody, it seems, is familiar with the movie vampire. Many are familiar with the “modern” vampire as we well know but the origins of the belief in vampires as real and tangible sources of threat and dread is, in itself, a fascinating and rewarding trail that leads the student through a labyrinth of truly global beliefs and folklore.

Seeing the differences in the tales, the superstitions and the historical anecdotes makes the rich tapestry of ‘The Vampire’ all that much more rewarding.

The pages in this file are dedicated to bringing together some of the age old images and icons that gave rise to the vampire archetype.

Regards and respects,
