October was, purposely, a big month at RVL. There were things that needed to be said, material that needed to be written and questions that needed to be asked. It created something of a whirlwind around here in trying to get everything done that needed doing. All in all we, the staff at RVL E-Zine, were pretty pleased with the way everything came together and now that October has closed out it is time to close out another project that has been ongoing since April of this year.
Back in April 2015 we extended invitations to people to give us their considered opinions on a range of subjects. The aim of the exercise was to gain insights into some of the misconceptions that still exist, even within the sub-culture itself.
To complete the cycle…
In developing, growing and expanding the RVL E-Zine over a period of almost five and a half years now, since its inception in 2010, we have had the privilege of speaking with many guest commentators on a wide range of topics to do with the real, modern living Vampire sub-culture.
The biggest advantage in keeping in constant contact with current thinking on any subject, in one place, is that the development, success and failure of the mechanism can be gauged in a manner that can be easily communicated to, and understood by, the people involved. Individual efforts and projects can be tracked as to their timing, and often their effectiveness, in either improving matters or not.
Every individual in the sub-culture is, and has, a voice in expressing their opinion; as was recently pointed out in a group discussion. That, obviously entails, the rights guaranteed in the “constitution” or “bill of rights” in pretty much all civilized societies throughout what we euphemistically refer to as “the free world”.
Indeed, the First amendment of the United States of America states that;
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
A right enshrined in law and, by extension that permeates all levels of society.
The aim of the short survey we invite you to participate in is to follow up on the Living Vampire Survey that RVL ran between October 1st, 2012 and September 31st, 2013. It is also to follow up on the responses that we received in response to our invitations to take part in the “round table” discussion under the working title, Mythbusting Misconceptions.
One of the indicators of how things have changed; or not, is watching changing trends in attitudes and opinions and while this hardly forms an empirical study it does provide an insight into the current popular thinking within a body of individuals.
The survey (14 questions) will be conducted over a period of three months, time for as many people as possible to attend and provide their opinion on the range of matters covered.
Right about now you will be asking yourselves, “Why another survey?” or saying to yourselves, “Why bother, no one ever pays attention to this stuff…!”
That is where, this time, we hope to be able to build on the results of the Living Vampire Survey of 2012-2013; and represent, as many people as possible. Our question of you is, “Why not help build the information base and possibly help to improve the situation we have?”
We hope that you will take a few minutes, with a cup of coffee, a drink or whatever takes your fancy and give us the benefit of your experiences and your knowledge as valuable and important members of our sub-culture.
